Acer produces a wide variety of electronics, including monitors, notebook and desktop computers, printers, scanners, LCD televisions and digitial cameras. Formed in Taiwan as a part of Multitech International, Acer entered the semiconductor market in a venture with Texas Instruments in the early ’90s and grew to be one of the largest PC manufacturers in the world. In 2007, Acer acquired Gateway for $710 million and now trails only Hewlett-Packard and Dell in the global PC market. Acer operates in the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. The company has turned its focus away from American retail markets, dropping out altogether in 1999. Acer outsources its manufacturing and sells through distributors and resellers around the world.
