Company Overview
Centex has built itself up into one sweet home business. Since 1950, the Texas-based company has been shaping the face of suburban America, helping its customers build, finance, insure, invest in, service, buy, and sell real estate in 25 states and abroad. Subsidiary CTX Mortgage Company, with 220 offices in 48 states, is one of the country’s largest non-bank-affiliated retail mortgage companies. Subsidiaries such as Centex Homes and Fox & Jacobs Homes provide affordable housing for first-time home buyers. Centex Homes operates in about 600 neighborhoods in the country; the average home sells for $304,000. Other subsidiaries—including Centex Home Team Services, CTX Mortgage Company, and Centex Title and Insurance—develop and finance housing for both individuals and commercial contractors. Centex even provides security and pest control services through its Centex Home Team unit. In 2006, the company sold its subsidiary Centex Home Equity Company. Though its properties are concentrated in the United States, Centex also has holdings in the United Kingdom.
