Company Overview

Chattem was formed in 1879 as the Chattanooga Medicine Company. Over the years, the company developed some of its own medicines, but it built its empire primarily through acquiring dozens of products and formulas from other firms. The company also has wholly owned subsidiaries in Canada and England. Major consumer brands include Gold Bond, Flexall, Aspercreme, Benzodent, Bull Frog, and Selsun Blue, purchased from Abbott Laboratories in 2002.
