Founded by James M. Cox in 1898 as a media company called the Dayton Evening News, Cox Communications, Inc. (officially born in 1962) has evolved into a major national force in domestic cable distribution systems. Today Cox Communications offers cable, digital cable, local and long-distance phone service, broadband Internet service, and commercial voice and data services. Cox is also interested in the content that gets delivered via its network, and so has an interest in programming including the Discovery Channel.
