The company reaches its customers through 550 company-owned and independent distributors in more than 190 countries and territories and more than 5,000 dealer locations. Cummins comprises four business units: engines (engines and aftermarket products for heavy- and medium-duty trucks, buses, RVs, and light commercial vehicles, and for equipment in the construction, agricultural, mining, marine, rail, and government markets); power generation (electric generators, power systems, and related accessories, components, and services); components (filters, silencers, exhaust systems, turbochargers); and distribution (17 company-owned and 3 joint venture distributors with 111 locations that provide Cummins products and related services to end users).
After a few years of sluggish performance, Cummins’ markets have begun to improve. Engine production for the former DaimlerChrysler and China’s Dongfeng Motor Company, along with increased filtration product sales, helped to increase revenue steadily since 2003. The company's best year ever was and 2005, then 2006, and then 2007. Cummins is expanding globally, and focusing on investments in Brazil, China, India, and Russia among other emerging market countries.
