Dart Container Corporation is the number-one maker of foam cups and containers in the world. Owned and operated by the Dart family, Dart Container was incorporated in 1960 in Mason, Michigan. The company manufactures more than 400 products and is a major supplier of plastic cutlery and cups for hospitals, schools, and restaurants. The company makes its own feedstock, builds its own molding machinery, and operates its own distribution trucks. It also creates foam pellets for packing and shipping via four polystyrene-recycling plants. The company is notorious for its secrecy—for instance, it never patented its cup-making machine, in order to keep from having to release information about how it works. Dart Container has more than a dozen facilities, including Dart Cup Ltd. Canada, Dart Sudamericana, in Argentina, Dart de Mexico, and Phoenix Manufacturing Services/Australia, as well as facilities in the United Kingdom.
