Company Overview
A diversified manufacturing company, Dover’s philosophy is to keep its operating companies autonomous and independent in their operations. Dover’s businesses are grouped under six market segments: Dover Technologies (electronic components, circuit board assembly, and ink-jet printing equipment), Dover Industries (transportation, food service, and waste handling equipment), Dover Diversified (can-making machinery, compressors, food refrigeration and display cases, and heat transfer equipment), Dover Systems (food and packaging equipment), Dover Electronics (electronic components), and Dover Resources (automotive, fluid handling, and petroleum equipment). Dover subsidiaries manufacture everything from air purification systems to convection steamers, parking meters, industrial winches, and semiconductor products. Dover is always ready to consider new acquisitions. It looks for companies that are well managed, leaders in their market niches, and focused on the manufacturing and distribution of equipment and machinery for broad customer bases. In 2006, Dover sold several companies, including Universal Instruments and Vitronics Soltec. But unsurprisingly, it also made acquisitions, adding Markem, a manufacturer of product identification solutions for food, beverages, and cosmetics; O’Neil Product Development, which makes portable printers; and Paladin Brands Holding, a manufacturer of tools used in construction and mobile equipment for primarily the forestry and recycling industries.
