Its Franchised Electric unit serves an estimated population of 5.7 million in a 22,000 square mile region in North Carolina and South Carolina. In addition to operating nuclear- and fossil fuel-powered hydroelectric and other generating facilities in the Americas, Duke Energy is active in the real estate and telecommunications fields and is involved in energy projects around the world, providing engineering and construction expertise.
