Founded in 1996 with four employees, Extreme Networks—which designs and markets three switch families called Alpine, BlackDiamond, and Summit—went public in 1999, garnering more than its share of awards along the way, including rankings among the best startups and best privately held companies. Extreme Networks offers a complete line of products and services that clients can use to improve network infrastructure and performance. Enterprise customers and network service providers use its Layer 3 switches to build or upgrade LANs, WANs, and metro-area networks. Partners include HP, Intel, and Sun Microsystems. Air Products and Chemicals, Arrowhead AB, China Telecom, Compaq, Deutsche Bank, Korea Telecom, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, Microsoft, Siemens, and YIPES are among its clients.
