Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Silicon Valley, Finisar designs, manufactures, and sells optical subsystems and components that connect local area networks, storage area networks, and metropolitan area networks. The company sells its products to storage and networking equipment companies such as Brocade, Cisco, EMC, and Hewlett-Packard. Finisar outsources most of the actual assembly of its products. It’s no stranger to growth via acquisition; its most recent completed acquisition, of the VCSEL optical products business of Honeywell, took place in 2004.
