Gannett

Company Overview

The largest newspaper publisher in the United States, Gannett operates 90 papers nationwide, 1,000 non-daily publications in the U.S., and 300 publications in the U.K. The company also does business in the broadcasting arena, owning and operating 23 TV stations that reach more than 20 million U.S. households, as well as the Captivate Network, which delivers programming and advertising to screens in hotel and office-building elevators. Gannett companies are also involved in telemarketing, direct marketing, advertising, and commercial printing. In 1982, Gannett started the national newspaper USA Today. Due to its splashy format favoring color graphics over editorial content, critics labeled it the "McPaper." Within one year, USA Today was selling a million copies daily and changing the face of newspaper publishing.
