Its biggest clients are MCI and Sprint, for which it carries long-distance phone traffic to and from the state. The company also does business in local phone services. In recent years, GCI has acquired G.C. Cablevision, which added 1,000 subscribers to GCI’s customer base, and Rogers American Cablesystems, which added another 7,000., It also owns an 85 percent interest in MCI’s 800-mile fiber-optic cable system extending from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez via Fairbanks.
