Hess

Company Overview

All that money you pay at the pump has got to go somewhere, and these have been good years for Hess Corporation. Known until recently as Amerada Hess, the company is one of the smallest of the integrated oil and gas companies, yet it manages to hold its own in the international petroleum industry, with exploration, refining, marketing, and production operations in Denmark, Gabon, Norway, the UK, and the US. Hess also operates in Indonesia, Thailand, the Caribbean and other regions. Hess explores for oil and gas both onshore and offshore, transports crude oil and refined products via tankers and other specialized vessels, and markets fuel oil, gasoline, and other petroleum products to industry and consumers. Consumers may be most familiar with the nearly 1,354 Hess retail service stations and convenience stores located mostly on the East Coast. Around 43 percent of Hess’ proved oil and gas reserves are located in the North Sea and Russia; the company is looking to utilize holdings in Malaysia, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Latin America, and Algeria. CEO John Hess owns around 14 percent of the company.
