Created in 1953 as a television rental operation, Koss changed dramatically when partners John Koss and Martin Lange, Jr. developed the first stereo headphones in 1958. Now the second-largest headphone company in the United States (behind Sony), Koss makes headphones for studio, home, and portable use. It also makes telephone headsets and runs the Koss Classic record label.
Fourteen percent of Koss' sales in 2007 came from its largest customer, Wal-Mart, and another 40 percent came from exports.
