Company Overview

Shortly after the end of the Civil War, Mallinckrodt started on a small farm in northern St. Louis as one of the early producers of photographic equipment. Now, it is the number-one supplier of x-ray contrast media in the United States. The company has been owned by manufacturing giant Tyco International since 2000, and consists of three main operations: pharmaceuticals, which produces bulk and dosage pharmaceuticals; imaging, which develops contrast agents for x-ray, magnetic resonance, and ultrasound devices; and respiratory, which produces respiratory products for use throughout the health care market. In early 2006, parent company Tyco International announced it will divide itself into three public companies next year, with Mallinckrodt as a stand-alone health care company.
