Omnicare is the biggest provider of pharmacy services to long-term health care facilities in the U.S. In addition, through its Omnicare Clinical Research business, it provides contract drug development services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies in 30 countries. After acquiring NeighborCare, a competitor, in a hostile takeover in 2005, Omnicare announced it was “rightsizing” NeighborCare’s Baltimore office and laying off 730 people (mostly in pharmacy operations).
