Organic

Company Overview

Highlights

Clients have included Avis, Chrysler, Jeep, Macy's, Tommy Hilfiger, and the Nature Conservancy.

Bought by Omnicom affiliate Seneca Investments in 2002.

One of the darlings of the dotcom era, Organic is a Web development and marketing services company. In addition to designing websites, the company offers services such as marketing, branding, email promotion, media relations, and fulfillment. It launched groundbreaking sites for Nike and Levi's. Other major clients have included Saturn, DaimlerChrysler, British Telecommunications, and Target. Organic, which was founded in 1993, grew quickly and went public in a high-flying IPO in 2000. But recession, expensive real estate commitments, and the big chill affecting all things Internet have seen revenues plummet, and successive job cuts have ensued. In 2002, the company sold a majority of stock to Seneca Investments LLC, a subsidiary of Omnicom. The company, which once had offices in Asia, Europe, and Latin America as well as North America, has scaled way back; it currently has offices in San Francisco, New York, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Toronto.
