Company Overview
Perkins Coie began with a handshake on a Seattle sidewalk in 1912. The law firm now has 14 U.S. offices and a global presence in Beijing and Shanghai. The firm rose to prominence throughout the 1990s by helping high-tech companies with venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, international joint ventures, and IPOs. Perkins Coie still represents a large number of technology and venture capital clients, but e-commerce, telecommunications, and life science companies have also become prominent in the firm’s repertoire. The firm’s more than 600 lawyers practice in 40 different practice areas, the broadest being litigation, tax law, and intellectual property. It also houses one of the largest estate planning divisions in the country. Perkins Coie is proud of its strong technology infrastructure. The firm uses a work product retrieval database that allows its attorneys to retrieve research and documents from anywhere in the firm, and it also sponsors the Perkins Coie Internet Case Digest, a compilation of Internet-related cases accessible from the Perkins Coie website.
