It sells its chipsets to about 50 companies. Qualcomm was created in 1985 as a six-person shop. Today it has facilities in Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Korea, Japan, Latin America, Spain, and the U.K. in addition to the U.S. The company’s Qualcomm Ventures business makes investments in startups focused on emerging wireless technologies.
