Seagate was founded in 1979 and, with IBM as its main customer, gained control of more than half the market for small disk drives by 1982. The company also makes tape drives and storage drives and offers disk, tape, and software support. Seagate has R&D and product sites in: Silicon Valley; Pittsburgh; Longmont, Colorado; Bloomington, Minnesota; Shakopee, Minnesota; and in Northern Ireland and Singapore. It has manufacturing and customer service sites in California, Colorado, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Northern Ireland, China, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
