Company Overview

The United Parcel Service has grown enormously since its humble beginnings in 1907, when 19-year-old James E. Casey borrowed $100 from a friend and established the American Messenger Company in Seattle. Now the company’s basic brown delivery trucks are a common sight around the world. In the 1980s, UPS entered the international shipping market in earnest, establishing a presence in an increasing number of countries and territories in the Americas, Eastern and Western Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Pacific Rim. The company is also in the logistics and supply-chain management businesses, offering a variety of products (e.g. software) and services (e.g. outsourcing and consulting) in these areas.
