Like Kleenex, Xerox is a premier brand name that has entered the English language. In addition to making its well-known copiers, Xerox also manufactures a broad range of office and business products, including printers, scanners, and document management software. The company also provides business services including consulting and document management outsourcing. Xerox employs some 8,000 salespeople, and its reach into the marketplace is further extended via relationships with more than 7,000 agents and concessionaires and more than 10,000 resellers.
In the past two years, the company made three acquistitions: It bought marketing software provider XMPie for $54 million, office equipment vendor Global Imaging Systems (GIS) for approximately $1.5 billion, and shelled out another $32 million for Advectis, a provider of electronic document collaboration software for the mortgage industry.
