I recently left my company and wish I didn’t. How can I go back?
The answer differs on a case-by-case basis.
If you left on good terms, contact your old manager to discuss the fact that you want to come back to your old job, if it’s still open, or perhaps another available spot. If you went to a competitor, your original company may be more upset at you than if you had attempted a career change. On the other hand, they might want the competitive intelligence. So neither scenario is purely negative.
Like any job search, finding your way back will take work in marketing, networking, and follow-through. Finally, you will need a thoughtful reason to give your new employer, because, as you’ve clearly realized based on the current situation, you should always avoid burning any bridges.
