Question of the Week

Working Overseas Would you consider relocating to a different country for work?

Making a Lasting Impression

My company doesn’t offer their interns full-time spots after the summer because they won’t know their needs until the following spring.  How do I make sure they remember me?

Answer

The answer here is simple. Produce quality work and they will all remember you. Be an amazing team member and everyone will want to work with you. Be enthusiastic about your work and you’ll be in the top 5 percent of your colleagues. Always keep up on the latest news by reading the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, etc., and it will show in what you say, the work you produce, and the confidence with which you carry yourself!
Then, after making that great impression over the summer, stay in front of mind by following up regularly during the academic year. Don’t just talk about future job prospects: Send a holiday card, send a relevant article, and congratulate them when you hear good news about the company.
And, while you are making a great impression, network with other companies to hedge your bets because the majority of interns will be getting a full-time offer to work with their summer company. And, with the market downturn, it will be a disadvantage to not have a full-time job offer in September. So network and meet with other companies throughout the summer.
