Universum Rankings 2009

The results are in. Where did your favorite employers finish?

The race to become considered one of the most attractive employers is one Universum tracks closely. Over the past decade, the company has surveyed millions of job seekers around the world about what makes an employer desirable and which ones rank at the top of their lists. This year, more than 300,000 students at 1,400 universities in 28 countries took Universum’s IDEAL™ Employer Survey, voicing their opinions and expectations about employers in the current job market.

So how is this data used? To track trends—such as the rise of Google and students' desire to do good—and to provide employers with the insight necessary to improve their strategies and recruitment efforts. Big Four firms, tech powerhouses, government agencies, consumer products companies, and other employers from a variety of industries want to know how they are perceived by job seekers. Equipped with this information, they can make changes or improve their communication to attract the best matches and most talented job seekers.  Job seekers can also use to discover new employers that match the qualities they consider important.

More than 60,000 undergraduates and 6,000 MBAs took the Universum Student Survey 2009, representing more than 400 universities.  Find out which employers made it to the top this year.

•  The financial crisis and market downturn has led to a reality-based, practical mindset among undergraduates—57% of undergrads look for secure/stable job (+11.20% jump compared to 2008). But they will not sacrifice work/life balance.

•  Healthcare and government/public service remain the most attractive industries in 2009—employers associated with overall solid conditions, competitive salary, and the most stability and security in times of economic uncertainty.
